About the Junior Program
From the Junior Committee Chairman

The StFYC has a long history of providing opportunities to young sailors, many of whom have gone on to excel on the world's stage. The Club cemented its reputation as a developer of world champions with the "Laser generation" of the 1970s-1980s. Subsequent groups of kids have continued that tradition. For example, in the 2008 US Olympic 49er Trials, 3 of the top 5 finishing teams were products of the StFYC Junior Program. Currently, a number of StFYC junior members have been chosen for the US Sailing Development Team in the Laser and 49er classes, while many others have gone on to excel on their college sailing team.

Because of its unique location, the StFYC offers fantastic junior sailing opportunities. Often during the spring and fall seasons, the only location on the Bay where there is a sailable breeze is at the City Front. Therefore the spring and fall learn-to-sail sessions-right at the end of the harbor-give kids a great start in sailing. In summer, the learn-to-sail program moves to the Club's "Paradise-in-the-Delta," Tinsley Island. It offers warm fresh water, a pleasant breeze, and a summer camp environment that kids love.

Currently, I am 12 years old and a seventh grader who really enjoys tennis, basketball, and operating model boats. Every week my clarinet teacher asks me how my sailing is coming along. He is a retired SF Orchestra musician who races his sailboat on the Bay and loves to sail.

I really got interested in sailing after seeing the 2011 Laser Radial World Championships...

As the newest member of the Race Office team, I would like to introduce myself.

I was born and raised in Kailua, just a short drive from Honolulu, Hawaii. As a young child, I played soccer, basketball, and baseball. Neither of my parents were sailors, so I was a late comer to the sport. Near the end of my seventh grade year, my good friend invited me down to Waikiki YC to sail in his El Toro. My first step into a sailboat was a...
